These are the biggest budgets of popular films that have been produced, these are the top twenty. Avatar being the first film to have the biggest budget as well as the greatest domestic gross and the worldwide gross. The budget does not link with the domestic gross and the worldwide gross, so the greater of the budget does not depend on how much profit is made. Films such as: Marvel's The Avengers has a low budget of $225,000,000 but has mad $1,514,279,547. Other films with a higher budget, such as: John Carter has a budget of $275,000,000 and has mad a lot less then the Avengers film, John Carter has made $282,778,100. This shows that the budget does not matter on how much the film makes and for my own opening sequence i will not have to use a great budget as it will not make a difference to the profit.
Choosing the right music for my opening scene will be difficult, but my genre will lead me in the right direction. My genre being action, the music has to relate to this. So the music has to be exciting and keep the audience entertained and excited to see the next part of the film. For my opening scene I will use examples of action films that has used the right type of music for their opening scene.
The first example I have used is the Fast & Furious 6 opening scene, this is a very good example which shows an action genre film with an exciting song which fits in. The song used for this opening scene is - 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa - We Own It.
Another example being is the Limitless trailer, an action film with an exciting choice of song towards the end, this gives excitement to the audience. The song used is - Kanye West - Power.
Music choices is vital throughout an opening scene, this is because an opening scene without music will be boring for the viewers. Having no music will create no excitement, no in-sentive to keep watching. The music itself creates a lot of excitement for the viewers, but the music choices is also very important for the viewers, to find the right choice and for it to fit in with the opening scene.
For example; if the film has a genre of romantic, then it will be right for the opening scene to have a choice of romantic music for its opening scene, therefore they will both link one another. But this is not enough, now the music being romantic and relating to the genre is done the music itself has to be a high quality, popular song that the audience will like hearing, therefore if the right song was chosen then the viewers will enjoy the opening scene.
Another example being a film with a genre of action means it will have to have an exciting, action filled song to start off with the opening scene, therefore it will create the excitement of the action film.
Comparing the two Italian job sequences, 1969 & 2003. Gives a couple similarities but a greater amount of differences. In my opinion I personally think that the more modern and sooner trailer the 2003 Italian job, is the better one. this can be backed up by several points, one of the points being that a greater amount of modern technology is used so therefore; improved graphics, greater technology, faster screens etc. Another reason is that the 2003 Italian job trailer is an animation, so it is a lot more harder to produce, the 1969 is a normal trailer, which is quite simple with a dull song and a camera shot of inside the car for more than half of the trailer, so it is quite boring and does not attract the audiences attention.
This is the opening scene to the re-make of the original Italian Job. I have chosen this to take inspiration of how my opening scene will look. In my opinion this opening scene has only a couple negatives and overall is a very positive first approach to the film.
The positives being are that the opening scene is an animation, so it is a lot harder then normal filming, and by the final product it is clearly shown that the animation has been done very well, even the animations move as the music kicks in, implies that the producer has spent time on making it perfect. The credits are very clear to the audience and is also up for a considerable amount of time, so the audience does not have to rush to read. I also like the way that they have not forgotten about the car theme of the film and they have used the mini to take part in the animation. Sound effects are also used to identify the car.
The only negative points that I will have about this opening scene would be the music, I think it doesn't give off the action genre of the movie, and I also think that the animation could have included a bit more detail to the theme of the film.
This is the Italian Job 1969 opening scene, this is from the original Italian Job movie. I have chosen this opening scene to take inspiration from because it relates to my opening scene in numerous ways; I would want my opening scene to be an action genre and involve cars for an entertaining approach. I have researched upon this opening scene and analysed it.
Like all opening scenes I have found negatives and positives throughout this opening scene. But worryingly I have found a greater amount of negatives then positives, but the reason I would look at it in this approach will be because we are in the 20th century and this opening scene was back in the 1969's so the reason for the negatives will be the lack of modern technology.
The positives for this opening scene would be the scene is very appealing because it is in the mountains and the camera only focuses on one vehicle/character. I like the way the opening starts off with the camera movements and the input of the car's engine noise which gives the audience the genre of the film, being cars. the camera then moves into the car, following the road and the car's engine noise becomes louder.
The reason why I have said that there was a greater amount of negatives then positives is because the camera stays stationary inside the car, which is good up to a certain point but starts to ease off and gets a bit dull and boring for the audience, there is no action to follow. Also the credits are not very visible with the mixture of colour and the background does not let the audience focus on one thing. The music was very calm and does not fit in with the whole genre of the movie, if a more entertaining choice of music was picked then it would keep the audience entertained but the stationary of the camera and the calm music bores the audience.
I would like to take inspiration of the opening scene by taking away the positives and upgrading the negatives and making sure I do not make the same mistakes in my own opening scene.
The original Italian Job has a completely different cast and filming technique compared to the re-make. The original Italian Job is the first make of the film so they will get heads up on coming up with the idea. But, the re-make of it has been upgraded to better quality graphics, a greater support for main characters and updated Mini's.
The original Italian Job has received a rating of 7.3/10 and the re-make has 6.9/10. So straight away the original has gained a step further then the re-make as the rating for it is a considerable amount higher.
Looking at all the feedback that both of the films have had gives an end result that the original Italian Job was better then the re-make.
The reason why I have compared the two films is that I would like to use one of the two films as inspiration for my own, but as an end result I will use both and use good factors of each film and apply the same for mine.
